Ticket to Paradise, Filmed in Bali… or Not?

The romantic comedy "Ticket to Paradise" starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts whisks us away to a beautiful island paradise. The film follows a divorced couple who reunite in Bali to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they believe they made – marrying too young. But was this idyllic setting actually filmed in Bali?

Surprise! Not Quite in Bali

While the movie is set in Bali, the filming location for "Ticket to Paradise" is actually Australia. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, production had to shift gears and find a suitable replacement. Luckily, Australia has some pretty amazing tropical destinations of its own!

Finding Paradise in Queensland

The Whitsunday Islands in Queensland became the cinematic stand-in for Bali. This archipelago is known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush greenery – all perfect for capturing the tropical island vibe.

Filming also took place on the Gold Coast and on beaches near Brisbane, further showcasing the beauty of Queensland. In fact, the production team even added some extra palm trees and tropical foliage to certain scenes to truly complete the illusion of being in Bali.

The Whitsundays: A Paradise in Its Own Right

While "Ticket to Paradise" might not have been filmed in Bali, the Whitsundays offer a paradise experience all their own. This region boasts white-sand beaches, coral reefs teeming with life, and luxurious resorts. It’s no wonder they were chosen as a substitute for the film’s setting!

So, next time you’re looking for a tropical getaway, consider the Whitsundays. You might just find your own ticket to paradise.
